I love it when fabulous events take place in my area. One of them was yesterday. My friends and I joined 1,200 other women at the 17th annual women's conference sponsored by Bay Path College. The theme was, Lead with Compassion. Keynote speakers were:
Besides the keynotes, I attended two breakout sessions:
1. How to Create a Compassionate, Powerful Workplace; Mean Girls is Not Just a Movie - Lisa Merlo-Booth, Therapist
2. Forgive for Good - Dr. Fredric Luskin, Ph.D., Stanford University Forgiveness Project
These were both helpful in regard to new work responsibilities where I have just been reassigned to supervise a team where there are unfortunately not nice women. Outside my office on Thursday, I overhead one of them talking about me... Enough said.
But I digress.
I came to know Bay Path College a few years ago when I took some technology classes in order to refresh. I was impressed with their Saturday B.A. program which offered women who either had to interrupt their education or first generation college women an opportunity for education. Having attended a women's college, I believe in education for all women.
After the conference, my friends and I were invited to a reception with Ashley Judd. There she was looking incredibly stunning with - Oh My Word! She is an animal lover too! - her two dogs. She let them loose and we absolutely delighted in petting them. Ashley could not have been more personable and gracious.
Mr. Weston, who has been an Ashley Judd fan since "Double Jeopardy", wanted to come to the conference too - even if he had to "dress as a woman." Sadly, I had to crush this dream and Mr. Weston and the other husbands were instructed to meet us afterwards for drinks and a very long dinner. How can one ever define the true value of good friends?
So, Mr. Weston's balm for not attending the conference? I had Ashley sign her book for him. I have not seen the book since Mr. Weston has been secreted away reading it all day.
In summary: Fabulous Day. Fabulous Minds. Fabulous Friends.

Sister Helen Prejean - Author of "Dead Man Walking" - had us laughing and crying
Ashley Judd - Actor and Humanitarian - never realized her challenges, a powerful speaker
Majora Carter - The Green Power Broker - a woman who transformed her life and her neighborhood
