Magazines: Tatler, Vanity Fair, and Life

It seems like Tatler has always been around the house and I still subscribe today.  I wish that my parents had kept all their old issues.

So why do I love this magazine?  First and foremost it is sarcastic and hysterical.

Check out the  June 2012 issue page 138.  "The Adventures of Superma'am" - otherwise a nice tribute to the Queen.

Oh, look a dog!

Then in April, the Tatler list with several admired people.

I am a huge Mitford fan.  Have read all their books and biographies.  The Duchess has very kindly responded to my letters.  Her letters are amongst my greatest treasures.

really famous

In my personal opinion, the closest thing to Tatler here in the U.S. is Vanity Fair.  I like this magazine too but some times do not like all the pontificating.  I have a copy of the December 1932 issue which was Clare Boothe Luce's first as Managing Editor - a second treasure.

Then, a third treasure is the very first issue of Life with the Margaret Bourke White photograph on the cover.  I have this  issue framed in my office.

My source for old magazines and research?  Periodyssey in a nearby town.  They are mostly mail order but they have very kindly let me browse when I have visited.
